After Eating Noodles

Our journey continued in Hong Kong and after eating the noodle lunch yesterday we continued to shop for beads, laces, buttons. and I even found these pug eyes; however the store attendants didn’t seem to want to help us??? So on we went.

My granddaughters were definitely amazed at their Nana going into store after store like a crazy pug artist digging and digging through baskets of beads, buying beads by the oz, yards and yards of laces (for pug collars). But we did pose a pose for a pic. Little did they know that I had some fun in store for them later that day. We had to complete the mission of why I came to Hong Kong.

Back to the hotel we go in a taxi. I am so glad that my friends here in Hong Kong provided the Chinese translation of the hotel we were staying at because taxi drivers don’t speak English. I just pull out the paper and show it to them and off we go back to the hotel.

We ate a noodle stand in the poor side of Hong Kong

And then a fine restaurant in the bling bling district called Harbour City

 

I think the appreciated both sides of Hong Kong.  Of course the bling bling side was their favorite as you can see:

 

We were absolutely exhausted after 12 hours of walking and exploring. Shopping and then the beautiful scenery of Harbour City.

Oh dear – I got caught on the Blackberry. Despite being on vacation – I checked on messages from Hubby in Afghanistan, received an update on Kin’s soccer tournament in Okinawa (so he is doing fine in that country), checking my Etsy shop, FB, work messages, and emails from my colleagues in Hong Kong who were confirming meetings this week while I am here.

Another Culture

I would say that my teens and daughter were a bit culture shocked at big metropolitan city life in Hong Kong.  I needed to go to the seamstress district to stock up on my supplies for embellishing my pugs.  We were in Kowloon and there were streets and streets of nothing but beads, buttons, fabric, laces. 

On Guam we hardly ever walk to shop.  Stores are spread out and our malls are not that big.  Folks on Guam pretty much drive everywhere.  But in Hong Kong we had to be aware of the pedestrian lights and traffic lights. 

We took a tax or shuttle everywhere and when we got to where we were going to we walked the rest of the way.

I tell you – my toes were cramping and that was painful.

In the shopping district there were no restaurants PERIOD.  But there were noodle stands.  We figured – might as well get a taste of Hong Kong.  The stand was on the street, yes it was. 

The cars passing by were like inches away from where we were sitting. 

Folks here are not as friendly as we are accustomed to.  Now I know why when my colleagues from Hong Kong visit Guam they are fascinated at how friendly everyone is.  I hated this one guest relations clerk at the hotel we stayed at.  It just irks me when she assumed we knew what she was talking about – that’s why I ask questions (nicely I might add).  She wouldn’t even let me finish my question.  So I pulled my hypnotic “take a chill pill” look.  I’ll just look at this angry young Y-generation rude girl and not blink – just stare………………and politely ask my question again.  She calmed down but still – when you are serving customers – why get angry or irked when the customer asks a question……….politely?  Don’t want to serve customers?  Do something else.

I can’t wait to start using all the beads and doo-dads I bought in Hong Kong on the pug creations coming up.

One Month After R&R

(SIGHING) well, it's almost one month since Ed left back to Afghanistan.  Every day I pray for his safety and the safety of all our service members who are deployed.

Wow two special occasions passed since I last blogged. Both occasions were celebrated with family (less Ed). Hmm, let's see........there was Easter. Struck this pose with my grandsons Joshy and Bub.

And recently, like the day before yesterday - it was Mother's Day. I spent that day finishing some pug projects. Aren't these little rascals adorable? I tagged the set "LESS THE POD PEA PUGS." I kept smiling to myself each time I added its personality.

Oh - I must share my teak book case. Rather....it's my Pug case for my creations. There is another Pug case on the other side. I'll post a pic of that another time.

Sorry that this was inserted side ways but I swear I rotated this before I uploaed it so heads won't tilt.  Technology I tell Ya.

Still teaching Zach how to drive. Yep - got to squeeze that into my busy schedule.

Also squeezed into my schedule is Kin's soccer games. He is the goal keeper in the red jersey.  At this game they challenged GW High School and the score tied at 2 to 2.  His school is leaving this weekend for Okinawa to compete in the Far East Tournament.

As I waited for soccer games to start, and during half time I worked on these pieces.

African King et al

Goodness.  I have been very occupied with nursing my 15 year old who came down with strep throat.  He is feeling much better after taking the medication to battle this illness.  I also need to take MA-kytah to the vet for her booster shot and to have a follow up done on her ears.  But................in between nursing and vet runs I do squeeze in my pug art.

SEE HEAR SPEAK NO EVIL

I finished one of my favorite designs called the "SEE HEAR SPEAK NO EVIL" pug set.  I present this set in the making.




I posted this pic earlier this week.  The dolls got their legs, face painted and beads sewn on.

I detail my pugs with dimensional fabric paint.  Details include wrinkles and claws.

Timing Tuesday

(sighing) Well it's been one whole day since Ed left back to Afghanistan and it's back to solo parenting for me.  It sure was wonderful having him here to help me get our kids to where they needed to go.  He fixed stuff around the house.  It was great to walk places and hold hands. 

So now that my partner is absent it's all about timing and scheduling and making sure we get back into the swing of things around here.




First things first.  Preparing the boxes to ship out the Pug Dolls that sold in my Etsy Shop.


Oh!!! I must share a pic of this beautiful teak chest I bought this past weekend.  It is not only a teak chest that can serve as a bench..........

or a display for my pieces from PugNotes

It is actually an ice chest

But for me - this piece serves as storage for my fabric.

Whoo HOO - scattered pieces of a pug.  This is going to be a nice piece.  I can feel it.

Etsy Shop - Up and Running

FINALLY!!!!  I got my Etsy Shop up and Running and posted practically all day yesterday.  HOORAY!!  My goal was to go full force by mid April and I was like two days late.  Oh well.  Hubby came home from Afghanistan for his R&R and we had a wonderful two weeks together.  He left today and I am sad but at the same time I am proud of him and all that he is doing for our country
 I LOVE YOU DEARLY ED.

My  past two weeks were extremely busy.  In that time I lost my pal MaX.  He had jumped onto his favorite chair and passed away.  I was so heartbroken.  I tried to write about it here in Blog Land, but I just couldn't do it.  I am stronger now and at peace that he touched my life with fun, pug hugs, and companionship.  He is with Emitt now all over that colorful rainbow.
