Day 3 in Hong Kong

Last night I saw the first Chinese person with a TAT since being here in Hong Kong.

Check out Zach shopping away in Harbour City.

Check out Lil with her funky socks.

Check out McDonald's ice crean and McFloat walk up stand.  Wow we need this in Guam

I got a kick out of McDonald's delivery service on mopeds.

This morning it was back to business  I had my first experience riding the Hong Kong MTR that took me to the business district.

This is one of the Toyota Service Centers.  It is so small compared to ours in Guam.

After my meeting, I rode the MTR back to the hotel and gathered the kids to flag a taxi.

We headed for the toy district

Check out Zach's shark book bag that he bought.

We had so much fun in the toy district that we got lost.

In this pic we read the map wrong and headed deeper into the city.

Deeper

I was a bit worried here.

We were being swallowed by buildings and vendors.

So we looked at the map again.

And again.

Ahh yes landmarks I can recognize and a relief look comes upon me.

A relief look comes upon Zach

A relief look comes upon Lil.

Yes we found our way back to the hotel.

WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!!

More of Hong Kong

Our morning began with some fine coffee from McCafe @ McDonalds across from our hotel.

We didn't feel right after our breakfast @ Micky Dees because we could just leave our trash and a busboy/girl cleans the table.  Now that was a culture shock to us.

And drinks to go are bagged.  There are no 4-cup holders

We also noticed that even though we were on the poor side of this city, the streets are free of litter.  Every morning ladies like this one sweeps the street manually.

We also noticed no tagging on the buildings and the youngs ones...........have no tattoos or as they call it on Guam and maybe all of our nation - body art or TAT.

We head back to shopping for more beads.  The minute we got out of the taxi this older shop owner began waving at us and smiling and welcoming us and he was just so customer centric.  Firstly we all had backpacks - a clear sign that we were not from this side of town or this country for that matter.  He was a shop owner of masks/mardi gras stuff.  Tammy needed two masks for her masquerade ball.  The shop owner - I think was trying to use his English and he was quite good.  He asked us where we were from and he had no idea where Guam was and decided that we were Hawaiian.  As we left he kept calling out to us "ALOHA"  "ALOHA"

My My - I got caught digging through a basket of beads:

We got thirsty and stopped by a little shop for cold drinks and this shop had a mascot, I guess, a Persian Cat.  Although- an animal in a store of food is just not allowed in America.

Here is Kylie buying me some fine stone beads for the Pugs.  OH I just can't wait to design and use them on pug pieces.

Gumball machines - well they just bring the kid out of my kids:

I do have COACH pieces..............but I don't have a pic with me under a COACH sign:

GOT GUCCI?  I do-just a couple of pieces that I love:

Just can't pass by STARBUCKS.......Yummy yummy:

Well - our second day in Hong Kong is coming to an end.  More to come my blog buddies.  Until then I leave a pic with my son the 16 year old.  He is getting taller and taller.

After Eating Noodles

Our journey continued in Hong Kong and after eating the noodle lunch yesterday we continued to shop for beads, laces, buttons. and I even found these pug eyes; however the store attendants didn’t seem to want to help us??? So on we went.

My granddaughters were definitely amazed at their Nana going into store after store like a crazy pug artist digging and digging through baskets of beads, buying beads by the oz, yards and yards of laces (for pug collars). But we did pose a pose for a pic. Little did they know that I had some fun in store for them later that day. We had to complete the mission of why I came to Hong Kong.

Back to the hotel we go in a taxi. I am so glad that my friends here in Hong Kong provided the Chinese translation of the hotel we were staying at because taxi drivers don’t speak English. I just pull out the paper and show it to them and off we go back to the hotel.

This trip had backpacks full of stuff for the Pugs

Check out my kiddies understanding the HK$ currency:

And now for the surprise. I exposed my children to Hong Kong…first this

And then this

This

And then this

We ate a noodle stand in the poor side of Hong Kong

And then a fine restaurant in the bling bling district called Harbour City

I think the appreciated both sides of Hong Kong.  Of course the bling bling side was their favorite as you can see:

We were absolutely exhausted after 12 hours of walking and exploring. Shopping and then the beautiful scenery of Harbour City.

Oh dear – I got caught on the Blackberry. Despite being on vacation – I checked on messages from Hubby in Afghanistan, received an update on Kin’s soccer tournament in Okinawa (so he is doing fine in that country), checking my Etsy shop, FB, work messages, and emails from my colleagues in Hong Kong who were confirming meetings this week while I am here.

Okay back to fun and more pics of our adventures in Hong Kong enjoy!!!  WILL POST SOON
